The Challenge.

Grisdale Lesniak Swann was asked to produce a series of occupation-specific leaflets
that would highlight the different paths that could be taken in pursuing a desired career. The leaflets were to be targeted at both young people and parents.

The Solution.

Grisdale Lesniak Swann developed ten ‘Pathways’ leaflets, which addressed the apparent gap in the market for objective information that set out all of the possible routes into different careers including engineering, IT, hospitality and business administration.

As well as setting out the prospects for long-term career progression, the leaflets showed which pathways could lead into each career, whether through A levels or through work-based learning such as modern apprenticeships. Details of local colleges and training providers that offered relevant provision were also listed.

During its development, the concepts were tested in focus groups with young people and received positive feedback. The leaflets were distributed to young people via Connexions, Jobcentre Plus, schools and training providers, and during the Cragrats theatre group’s school tour.

The Results.

The leaflets were so well received that a further two other industry areas were added to
the range, and the leaflets won a Heist Award in the Widening Participation category in
the 2006 Heist Awards.
